Mini Bees

July's Book

The Problem with Pierre by CK Smouha

Next door neighbours Bertram and Alan are quite different, but that doesn’t stop them being the best of friends. When Bertram gets Pierre the cat, he is dismayed to find Pierre would rather be at Alan’s messy house, than his perfectly neat place. What on earth can he do? With beautiful chalk-style illustrations, this is a beautiful book all about finding a happy compromise – with an unexpectedly purrrrfect happy ending!

Inspiring Creativity

Each creative activity card includes at least 4 ideas, for example:

  • Creating a poem or song inspired by the themes, language or characters in the book, and some steps to get you started.
  • Suggestions for creating art with found objects – you might make a lion from autumn leaves that you’ve collected
  • A recipe for a fantastic feast featured in the story, so you can enjoy your own edible treats alongside the characters
  • Ideas to prompt your inner actor or playwright to imagine what happens next after you close the story book

– the list is endless, it all depends on what creative connections the book itself sparks!

You don’t need any special art supplies or equipment to take part in the activities – just your amazing brain and regular things you’d find at home, such as pens, crayons, paper and glue.
